In this post, we’ll explore how you can stay informed about your scheduled queries by setting up alerts in Adobe Experience Platform. These alerts help monitor query runs and notify you of important status SQL query updates—so you can act quickly when things don’t go as planned.

Why Use Query Alerts?

Query alerts let you subscribe to real-time notifications for specific states of a scheduled query. You can choose to receive alerts when:

  • A query starts

  • A query succeeds

  • A query fails

  • A query is delayed beyond a set threshold

  • A query is quarantined

This makes it easier to track automated workflows without constantly checking their status manually.

How to Set Alerts for Scheduled Queries

When creating or editing a scheduled query in the Query Editor, you’ll see an option to subscribe to alerts for different states. Here’s how to use it:

  1. In the scheduled query setup, scroll to the Alerts section.

  2. Select the checkboxes for the alert types you want to subscribe to (start, success, failure, etc.).

Using the Query Delay Alert

In this section, we’ll discuss a particularly useful type of alert: the delay alert, which is triggered when your query takes longer than expected to complete.

  • You can customize the delay time (in minutes).

  • By default, the system sets this alert at 150 minutes after the query starts.

  • The maximum delay time allowed is 1440 minutes (24 hours).

Note: If you enable a delay alert, you must manually set the desired time in minutes in the Experience Platform UI.

Example Use Case

Let’s say you run a daily customer_data query that typically completes in 120 minutes. If it suddenly runs for more than 180 minutes, something might be wrong. Setting a delay alert at 140 minutes allows you to get notified early and investigate.

Conclusion

Setting alerts for scheduled query status in Data Distiller is a smart way to monitor query performance and handle issues proactively. Whether it's a success, failure or a delay warning, alerts keep you informed and in control of your data operations. Take advantage of this feature to streamline your monitoring process—and reduce the time spent manually checking query runs.
