Seems like Workfront has lot many Notification bugs.My team and me are receiving false notification saying 'XYZ uploaded a document on ABC project' but they just only opened the document uploaded by different user.

Me and my team also facing this issue not only on homepage but on multiple workfront screens. Weirdly, one(maybe couple) browser window refresh works for us every time.

This doesnt seems like an issue with your filter, but lately the Workfront application itself is throwing this kind of errors for most of the clients. Adobe is having many minor/major issues and also lot of system maintenance activities.

I believe 'Branding' ability is working as we recently updated all of our Background, main menu, home icon images on our production instance. @sineadwhelan  Try out the 'Branding' under the Setup in your production environment (Lower instances might not always work though)
