I was on a call recently where someone from Workfront mentioned it wasn't good practice to use Parent tasks as Predecessors.  We do this pretty regularly since often times the tasks nested under a parent all need to be completed in order for the next tasks to start. @MeshackOm1 - Is this just a user report to see users that are assigned multiple roles? It will help to know some specifics on what type of report you are running and what you are wanting to see? The report type could dictate how you filter the report.
