message ID in my email tracking event not matching the message ID In the email technical properties

I need to create a unitary event to reach profiles who clicked on an email that was placed earlier in the journey. I can't use a reaction event activity because the reaction activity isn't placed directly after the email I'm looking to act on which is why I am creating a unitary event to look at the message ID of the email earlier in the journey and the interaction type instead

How do I get the execution message ID of my email to create this event without publishing the journey?

@MarlieHo1 Happy New Year!

  • Journey Trigger: Events from internal Journey Optimizer datasets (such as Message Feedback or Email Tracking) cannot be used to directly trigger a journey. This is an important guardrail to note.

  • Other Approach Using Batch Audience: To pull necessary events (including interaction type, journey action ID, and journey version ID) without publishing the journey, you must first set up a batch audience.
  • ID Change Warning: Remember that the journey version ID changes whenever a new version is created. The action ID will also change if an email action is removed and then added back to the journey.

Hi Sathees - thanks for the quick help. For your first point, does that only apply if it's being used to start the journey? or does that mean at any place in the journey, we can't reference data from those datasets?

this journey itself starts with a different activity, based on if someone completes a form, it will not be starting with a check against the event datasets till later in the journey.

for your second point with creating an audience, can I create it as a streaming audience instead of batch?

  • You can't use it anywhere in the journey for inclusion/exclusion.

  • No. It has to be a batch audience.
