Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO) provides reporting dashboards that offer a high-level view of journey performance for targeted audiences. But what if you want deeper insights—like understanding how different audience segments performed?
By integrating AJO data into Customer Journey Analytics (CJA) and adding a profile dataset to the AJO-compatible connection, you unlock powerful, in-depth analysis capabilities.
For example, imagine you've executed a journey for a global audience. While the journey was broadly successful, you now want to analyze performance by country. If the journey had used a condition node based on the "country" profile attribute, this breakdown would be available by default. However, creating individual paths for each country can be impractical. Instead, you can join a profile dataset with AJO data in CJA to analyze results by country after the journey has completed. You can then adjust the AJO reporting template so this enhanced information is available in the default AJO reporting view.
Requirements
- Access to both AJO and CJA.
- Product admin access in CJA.
- An appropriate profile dataset.
- Matching identities between your profile dataset and AJO event datasets
Tip: Be aware that changing the AJO connection may have billing implications. Check with your admin or account rep for details before making changes. |
Add a Profile Dataset to the AJO Connection
The first step is to find your AJO compatible connection in CJA. Browse to the CJA data view list. Note the Compatibility column. Each sandbox where AJO is enabled has a single connection which is compatible with AJO. You can use the filters to narrow your search to show only AJO compatible data views in a specific sandbox. Note the name of the connection that this data view uses.

Next browse to the CJA connection list and search for the name of the connection you found on the data view list page.

Tip: Your profile data must be imported into a dataset to be integrated into the CJA connection. |
To add the profile dataset, first click on the name of the connection. Then click on the “Edit Connection” button. Next click the “Add datasets” button. In the modal that opens, check the profile dataset you want to use and click the “Next” button. Select the Person ID and Data Source. Toggle the "import new data" switch to the on position. Also, backfill any data that you need available to reporting. See the documentation for details on each of these options. Be aware that these changes will affect your ingested row count in your CJA billing. Click “Add datasets” to finalize the change. The backfill can take a few days to complete. Any newly data added to the dataset will be available in about 90 minutes. When the backfill completes all your profile data will be ready for analysis.
Tip: Complete instructions for editing a connection can be found in the CJA documentation. |
Add Profile Fields to the AJO Compatible Data View
Now that the dataset is added to the connection, all the profile attributes are available to be designated as either metrics or dimensions in CJA. To start, go back to the data view list in CJA and click on the name of the AJO compatible data view in the sandbox that you want to evaluate.

To add the dimension, click on the “Components” tab at the top. On the left rail you should now see the “Schema fields” section. One of the options will be “Profile datasets”. When you click on the “Profile datasets” option, you will be shown all the available schema fields that exist from all profile datasets that have been added to your connection. The fields will be available whether data has ever been collected in that field or not. Find the field you want and drag it to the “Dimensions” area in the middle of the window. When you save the data view by clicking on the “Save” button at the top, that profile field will not be available to your reporting.
Tip: Review the documentation and consider which other configuration options you might want to enable before saving the data view. |

Customize the AJO Dashboard in CJA
If you have access to CJA and have enabled your data view for use in CJA, you can fully customize the dashboard that is shown in AJO. The easiest way to customize an existing dashboard is to first visit the dashboard in AJO. Visit AJO and load the report for a journey. After the Journey report loads, you will see a button labeled “Analyze in CJA” in the top right corner of the dashboard. If your permissions are set up correctly, clicking on the button will open the dashboard into a new workspace project in CJA.

Now that the dashboard is open in CJA you have all the power and capabilities that CJA offers. You can adjust the dashboard any way you see fit. As an example, the screen shot below has been augmented to include the CTR and CTOR metrics, a breakdown of the Customer Lifetime Value (CLTV) and the top participating countries. The CLTV and countries dimension came from the included profile dataset that was added to the connection.

Now that the dashboard is configured the way we want, lets share it with all AJO users and make it available for all Journeys.
Share the Dashboard Back to AJO
To make a dashboard available in AJO it just needs to be saved as a template. Click the “Project” menu and then the “Save as template…” menu item.

This will open a model with options to save your report as a template. Give the template a name. You can select any channel, but for AJO templates I generally choose Cross-channel. The use case for this template is Journey Optimizer. This will make the template available in AJO. In the example above the template was created for "journeys" so that is selected as the activity type. You can make the template available for all journeys by selecting “All activities” in the drop down, or you can select to share the template with only a single journey.

After hitting the “Save as template” button the template will be available to AJO. If you go back to the journey report in AJO you should see a new drop-down menu in the top right corner of the dashboard. From that drop-down you can select the various templates that have been saved as part of the Journey Optimizer template user case.

Chose the template that you just saved and you should see profile data mixed with Journey Optimizer data.
AJO will remember the last template you viewed, making it the default when you return.

Final Thoughts
By integrating profile data with AJO journey data in CJA, you can unlock deeper insights and tailor your dashboards to reflect the metrics and dimensions that matter most. This approach empowers your team to evaluate performance across diverse audience segments—driving smarter, data-informed decisions.
