Does anyone utilize Workfront for checking out equipment either as a resource or for maintenance purposes? For instance, our Studio and Tech teams often require specific types of equipment for various projects, and we are looking to implement KPIs to manage this process.

Yes, I've used Workfront to model equipment many ways over the years. I currently would recommend creating a User for each piece of equipment, leveraging Schedules, Time Off, Custom Data, Avatars, and (most important) "Assignability", and using Tasks on Projects (both "Real" and if you wish, "Inventory") to visualize, manage, and schedule the equipment.
In certain cases, we used GPS information to show where a Project would occur; and with relatively inexpensive air tagging technology these days, perhaps you could even keep track of where each piece of equipment is, too (think "assignment by proximity", and/or "exclude equipment that is not currently where it is supposed to be").
As we recently announced, we are rolling these and many other new features into our next release of our Resourcing Grid solution, which will allow Workfront users to schedule, visualize, and manage people, locations, and equipment down to the 15 minute interval.

I have not done this, but could see the use case!
At first blush I would think of doing this utilizing issues on the larger project, assuming they are doing something like checking out a camera to support a photoshoot. Issue could have an approval step or not depending on how quickly you know the need (dont want a bottleneck), and could have an approval upon return as well so someone else has to "check it in".
This could also be accomplished with tasks on a larger "Camera XYZ Usage" project with tasks associated to the date/time needed. Same can be said for the check in approvals prior to task completion.
As far as KPIs - track total usage count per object, track typical in>out time, track if any users are usually late/delayed, also the fixed value of each usage too (if equipment was rented or purchased separately we would have spent x instead we saved y).

Thank you for your suggestions. The check-in/checkout part seems like it will work as well as the added late/delayed added part. I plan to inform my team on the possibility in the coming weeks.
