Multiple Users Assigned to Single Task

Currently if there are multiple users assigned to a single task, any person can close out the task and block all other users if they select DONE and do not further select Done with my part. The help desk called it a feature but in the real software world its called a bug.

On tasks with more than one resource the ONLY option should be Done with My Part and as mentioned above, not close out the entire task. Additionally, when one user is done with their part it should show progress completed to the percentage corresponding to the number of resources assigned. If 2 resources are on a task, then one person's 'done with my part' will alter the progress to 50% complete. If one resource updates their portion of a task to 50% and the other resource has done nothing, then the progress of the overall would be 25%.

Yes, I have seen this behavior and think it would be appropriate to be done only with "my part". More often than not, a user completes a task, unknowingly on behald of everyone else assigned, when reality other users still have work pending and the task is not complete.

Excellent comments. Out workers still have no idea how to complete work. They just leave it all to the project manager to sort out the mess.

This issue also applies to issues.

If you are using Auto Complete, then the % complete should reference the planned hour allocation, i.e. if Worker 1 is planned for 1 hour and worker 2 is planned for 3 hours when worker one is 'Done with my Part' the task/issues shoudl be 25% done.

We use manual % completing, as anything else is too hard to manage.

If more than 1 person is assigned, the only option should be Done With My Part

• This should be configurable in Setup because there are situations where teams know when something is done and are comfortable noting completion on behalf of the others assigned.

The % Complete should be as Pete Warren details and with one modification. It should also factor in the hours assigned to each user on the task.

• A task has 2 users - UserA is assigned for 2 hours of work, UserB is assigned for 8 hours of work.
• UserB is 0% complete. UserA sets % Complete to 100%.
• This should NOT set the task as 50% complete. It should set the task as 20% complete.

Actually we use the done with my part vs complete. we have multiple people assigned to a review task or a feedback task. if someone is out sick or at the client, or if someone is on solely as an inform and not a responsible, we don't want the project being held up because they didn't mark the task as done.

Having the ability for a user to mark the task as "Complete" for everyone is beneficial.

I do certainly see the potential negatives - so potentially leveraging the "task owner" and having as the only one with the ability to mark a task as complete for others is a viable solution?

Between the project owner and admin, there should be someone who can set it Complete in the case where someone is out of the office. I strongly believe that something like this should be an option so we're not forcing people into processes that don't fit the way they work.

This will save on the learning curve when it comes to task constraints: calculated work versus calculated assignment. I see importance of task constraints within certain applications (fields) but for general use this option would be good.

My left brain is kicking-in. I wish the product had an assignment table where we could manipulate the allocation. If someone accidentally marked a task complete, I could go to this table to switch back the others.

A reverting back to the last action on the task.

I like this suggestion, would like to have the option to set this restriction. However, another way to deal with this might simply be to throw a warning message if they try to close the whole task and force them to confirm they are completing the task for others.

Alternatively, maybe a button to notify the PM that the whole task is done would help those cases where a team of people is doing the work and one of them really does complete everything and the whole task should legitimately be closed.

We have tasks with multiple people that can be Done - Complete or Done - With My Part. In the description field of those tasks, we tell people which way to mark their task when they are done. It's helped with the confusion a lot.

I like the idea of requiring it to be Done - With My Part, but I would recommend making that configurable either at a project level or system level.
