IDEA: Better Filtering in Planner

Description - We use planner for forecasting capacity for our C Suite Execs to help with forecasting projects. Currently with the planner functionality as it is, we have to create our filters, export to excel, and remove zeros, etc. In it's current state the filers just don't work quite right for viewing inside the tool and always needs to be aggregated in excel. With the ultimate goal of Workfront being the one stop shop, this doesn't sit well. If we could filter out old projects that don't fall in the timeline being viewed or somehow alleviate the mass amounts of zero values that show up, it would help us tremendously and would help the overall value of Workfront for our user base.

Why is this feature important to you - The amount of time needed to run resourcing reports out of Workfront is too high. We need to find a solution that's faster and doesn't involve so much work outside of Workfront.

How would you like the feature to work - Expand the filtering functionality.

Current Behaviour - Create basic filters and export to excel.

I like this idea but the situation is that filters in general are a hot mess. Admins can't admin all filters. Filters in Planner, Balancer, etc. can't be managed or accessed by admins at all. There are Planner filters, Utilisation filters, Assigned Balancer filters, Unassigned Balancer filters and Report filters. Admins can only access Report filters unless specifically shared with them. Also, why can't I create a filter that can be used across assigned and unassigned in Balancer? Why not have sharing across Planner and Utilisation? If I want to allow users to create Balancer or Planner or Utilisation filters but NOT report filters, I can't.

Here's another idea that is similar: https://experienceleaguecommunities.adobe.com/t5/workfront-ideas/allow-admins-to-manage-workload-bal...

Maybe @jon_chen can combine?

@RandyRoberts - reading your comment and your idea, I agree and I liked your idea.

I will say that my use case is very specific to expanding the functionality of filtering in Planner. It lacks the ability to do anything extensive with filtering in comparison to other parts of the tool.

@RandyRoberts @KellieGWAB Thanks for both of your feedback. I agree with Kellie that the ideas are similar but distinct in ask, so will keep them separate.

@KellieGWAB Thank you! It's good to know we're not alone. I'm in the middle of deciphering how these filters work and, in fact, logged into Experience League today to create (if it didn't already) an idea about making the Planner row limit warning more obvious. Here's the idea: Make Planner row limit warning more obvious - Adobe Experience League Community - 606626.

There's discussion here about the resource tools where I'm logging my discoveries and aggregating ideas: [Follow Up] Getting Started with Resource Manageme... - Adobe Experience League Community - 593932. I'll add this one to the discussion.

The point I was making is that fixing one issue at a time on a broken product will never get that product ready for prime time. I think fixing the filters needs a more holistic approach. By making a single list of EVERYTHING that needs fixing in one place will highlight that filters needs an entire overhaul.

@RandyRoberts I agree, Planner needs an overhaul. However, let's guide the product team on what our biggest pain points are and provide ideas on what we would rather seen. Without guidance the team would be guessing and might end up with a redesigned product that still doesn't work for us.
