You could also think about applying a condition based on a regex that wouldn't set the variables if the search term contained characters or patterns that you didn't want.  Stop the data on client before it gets sent to any server.

Hence the partially implemented label, and you're in luck.  I just saw a demo of the custom code expansion.  It's probably a few weeks away from release still, but for your custom code blocks, it expands into a full viewer and shows additions, deletions, and modifications on a line-by-line basis.
