Segmentation can happen at multiple levels within the Marketing Cloud, and this affects how quickly that segmentation event can be used for targeting.
To learn more about how each solution uses audiences, check out our Audiences documentation.
Audiences can be either real-time or historical in nature. Audiences shared from Analytics are of the historical variety and require some processing time. Every 12 hours, Analytics sends updated membership for its shared audiences to the Marketing Cloud. There it's ingested, processed and pushed out to our global network. The whole process can take up to 48 hours, so this is best suited for computation-heavy or slowly changing segments.
Real time audiences can be created in Audience Manager or right within the Marketing Cloud interface. This lightweight segmentation happens as the data is coming in, so it can be leveraged the next time Adobe Target makes a call. Because of this rapid segmentation and response capability, most opt to use these types of audiences for behavior-based segmentation.
So it's highly likely that you're not seeing the updated Target experience because the segment membership from Analytics hasn't been processed yet. If possible, try creating a similar audience in the Marketing Cloud and test with it. A couple things to keep in mind:
- Once created, it takes about 30 minutes to configure the audience. After that initial configuration, segmentation will happen in real time.
- You should see the new audience in Adobe Target within about 10 minutes of creating it.
Thanks and good luck!
