Sync AD groups to target

Avatar

Level 4

Hi,

The use case is to use AD groups to target content. There are around 500+ AD groups.

How to sync the AD groups to Target and use the same to target content?

Any example on the targeting of content based on AD groups.

Hi @SwetaB

By AD groups I assume you're referring to Active Directories.

I've never done anything like this - but if you treat the groups as segments, then the integration would be no different than when integrating with a 3rd party DMP or similar.

If you can expose what group the user belongs to when they visit the site, you can set an mbox parameter with the group name.

Having 500+, this obviously isn't a scaleable solution. If you have access to RTCDP - and I'm no expert in it - but you may be able to use query services to create the segments for you.

Maybe people smarter than me have better approaches to achieve this? @Gokul_Agiwal  @pradnya_balvir @Gaureshk_Kodag

Hi @SwetaB

Could you please let us know what AD group you're referring to?  @kandersen  pointed as Active Directories, is this assumption correct?

Like mentioned above, the option to treating groups as segments and integration make it possible however  if you could elaborate the use case bit in details then we can surely help you.

Thanks

Hi @Gokul_Agiwal ,

AD groups are Active directory groups. These groups are managed by the business and the user and groups change often. The use case is targeting content based on the AD groups.

In AEM the author should be able to target content using the AD groups, which can be achieved by experience targeting. But the AD groups should be synced to target and then from target be available in AEM as audience.

Hi @kandersen ,

Apologies for not mentioning that AD groups are Active directories.

we did first thought of getting the groups and passing it as an mbox parameter, but that solution is not feasible as the user can have thousands of groups assigned and would be heavy on the runtime.

Thanks,

Sweta

@SwetaB i assume you are trying  based on the logged user / defined/mapped in your org AD- below are high level approach

- if it is Target access and role user Adobe Admin <> AD configuration to pull in users in Adobe IMS from there you can configure role access

- if to have segmentations then export AD user list  and import in Target as audience and then the user  Profile Parameters to set param based on the logged-in user later mapped/validate using profile script against the audience at server before setting activity..

Hi @RiteshYadav18 ,

It should be a scheduled sync.

@SwetaB Yes I understand that, I know how it can be configured in Adobe IMS as well, however in short, the AD group is nothing but a segmentation based on the role and responsibility of a person in your org.

It is not clear on the overall use case; however, if you clear the flow of what and what not to display to specific users, you can solve this problem with and without an AD group.
