Using Adobe Target to Improve SEO for Overlay Content

Avatar

Level 4

Hi Everyone,

I need your guidance on an SEO challenge.

Business Owner has a significant amount of content displayed in overlays on their website. However, they are facing SEO issues because:
- Important content is not well-structured within the site, leading to lower search rankings.

- Content inside overlays is not easily detected by search engines, affecting visibility.

I'm wondering if Adobe Target could be used in the background as a "bridge" to help search engines properly access and index this content.

Has anyone tried this approach, or do you have any insights or alternative solutions?

Looking forward to your thoughts!

Thanks,

@priyankagupta20 Quick disclaimer, I'm certainly not an expert in the SEO space, so take this with a gran of salt and let's see if there are some real expert out there who have better input.

I typically rely on the google guidelines, which are documented here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/website-testing#run-the-experiment-only-...

The short summary is, run tests only as long as necessary. If you run them for longer it may be interpreted by google that you're trying to deceive the search engine.

With this in mind, then Target probably isn't the best approach for 'fixing' this.

In my own experience I've seen pages rank higher due to an experience being indexed during the duration of a test. They've never for long, so I'm not aware whether it over time would have resulted in a penalty later.

I would advise against using Target for this - even if it was 'doable'. Simply because i don't think it is a long-term solid solution. For SEO you want to ensure you're not 'cutting any corners'.

My 2 cents, if it is even worth that much.
