Header text wrapping should be turned on by default

Everyone is loving this new option to wrap header text in columns, details in here: Column Settings

"Lets you wrap the header text in Freeform tables to make headers more readable and tables more shareable. This is useful for .pdf rendering and for metrics with long names."

But again cool new setting that is hidden in the column settings. Not all users are finding these settings easily. This is also that kind of setting that I'm having hard to find situation where you wouldn't want to use this? It doesn't make any sense to me, can someone explain when you would want to hide header text? Ok, maybe if you have looooong names for metrics or have dozens of breakdowns or something weird, however, these situations are one in a million and that's why it would be wiser to have this enabled by default and you would always have the option to change it if needed.

Even better would be to have option to change all the default settings for Workspace in admin section, but wanted this header text wrapping to be own idea, because it should be no-brainer, or am I missing something? Vote, comment, agree, disagree...

Thanks for the idea Antti! This is something we can definitely consider. The main drawback we see is if you have column headers that have really long names, which agree, is more edge case. Do you have those often? Would you be ok if we auto-wrapped and made you turn it off? Should there be a max height enforced? W

ould love feedback from everyone on this to help inform our decision!

Thanks Jen!

Yes. Default to auto-wrap.

Then give users the ability to override the wrapping or rename the heading (maybe renaming is a stretch but it would be an added bonus).

i have this a loooot, it is not edge case, 90% of my workspaces are affected by truncation.

And it gets worse when we are splitting columns into many subcolumn, then even the short values like "Page View" become unreadable, especially when wowrking on a laptop with a smaller screen

Great to hear Jen that you are considering this. (come on people, more votes!) It just sounds strange that after changing this someone would comment "we don't want to see our metrics". So yes, those sounds very edge cases.

Should there be some kind of "max height enforced", doesn't sound bad, but would it be confusing for some users? Maybe just having enable/disable options would be just fine, and auto-wrapping enabled by default.

I think the general issue here as with many features is that Adobe product management & QA seem to test with basic metrics only a lot, and on huge wide screens. This is why such things don't bother Adobe as much as they do clients. My recommendation: Force everyone on a laptop and work with real customer setups for testing & qa.

Of course "Visits" and "Revenue" are short, but you don't buy Adobe Analytics to keep stuck at such basic metrics. We are using 80% Calculated Metrics, and it is mostly impossible to summarize their essence in a few characters. Moreover, we heavily split metrics by Segments, and Segments have the same "problem".

And any other Analytics tool out there I know of (including the old R&A Interface) does not truncate their columns, but wrapped them by default. That is why this truncation was a thing that got me livid from the very start of Workspace, and it is why I am so happy to see it finally gone at least optionally. Now we just need it as the default.

There can be extreme cases with verrry many columns where you would make the columns really long if you wrapped, so deactivating truncation would still be a useful option.

Hi Jen, great addition and definitely ideal to have it turned on by default (and the user may decide to turn it off): this can actually make tables look better when you have lots of columns, I am was able to display Average Time on Site fully before

Could the text wrapping be considered also for visualization titles? Sometimes to keep a dashboard layout lighter I add comments as titles to visualizations (think consulting-slide-style). Or should I raise this as another idea in the forum?

We haven't explored wrapping visualization headers yet. Have you thought about using the description field under the title instead for your comments? That space is smaller font and wraps. We are also reducing the padding that is added when you use descriptions, to keep the layout lighter.

I might be ignoring the existence of a functionality then! When I have a chart or a table, where do I add the description under the title?
