For those who were not aware, there will be a phased rollout of Unified Approvals to all customers over the next six months. (There has been an opt-in opportunity over the past year, so I know some of you have already adopted.)
For those who have not yet adopted, my understanding is that Unified Approvals and Document Approvals are two different objects. The reports that you create for document approvals will not cease working immediately upon transition because for a while, you'll have two different types of document approvals in the system -- your new unified ones and your old doc approval ones. However, you will notice that new approvals will not show up on these reports.
With that in mind, I'd like to open up a discussion space below. (I'll move it into the discussion area on Monday, just that most folks tend to look in the questions area first so I would like to get some eyes on this before moving over)
For those that have already adopted unified approvals:
- can you talk us through some of your highly used unified approval reports? (feel free to talk through details on how you make them, what columns you add, etc.) Especially valuable -- talking through some of the advantages you've been able to reap with the new doc approvals functionalities like selecting reviewer vs approver, or deadlines.
- any transition tips for the admins?
- Usage of the Home widgets -- how is this going? Pain points or ideas for us to upvote?
My own handy tip: if you report on document approvals, I feel like it's pretty imperative that you add canvas dashboards to your system ASAP, so you can start upskilling in this new type of report building.
Transition tip: How many document approval reports do I have?
This is a report report, filtering on "report type = DOCAPL" -- you can do this in the standard mode, or just copy/paste the text mode below
uiObjCode=DOCAPL
uiObjCode_Mod=cieq
* Intermediate: look for Doc Approval views, filters and groupings in your setup area
*Advanced reporting note: remember to check your other object report filter definitions (or independent filter filter definitions) for "DOCAPL"
This type of review is to build an overview of what your instance is currently using doc approval reporting for -- filters, views, groupings, and charts. Be very strict -- if it hasn't been looked at in over a year (or 6 months, to be honest) I would recommend you just immediately delete the report.

Hi all, I'm trying to understand the impact of the Unified Document Approvals (UDA) from all the help pages but still need some help please...
My understanding is the current document approvals (DU) and UDA's will be running at available at the same time but eventually DU's will cease or at least, won't be able to report new document approvals. Is that correct?
Can we only report on UDA's using the Beta Canvas Dashboards or is it that DU's won't be able to be report via that? I read something that sounds like there maybe a UDA report available at some point. Any ideas when or how I see this?
If I join the Canvas Dashboards Beta, will I see the option to add them to layout templates? At the moment I don't see them probably because I'm not signed up.
Are there timelines that I need to be aware of?
Thanks
Matt

1) DU and UDA will be "running and available at the same time" untrue -- as soon as you switch over to one approval platform you will be switched off from the other one. Both types of reports will be running and available, you will just notice the cutover date you will have no more DU.
2) where can you report on UDAs -- canvas dashboards or a widget in home. You can pull existing DU reports and place them on canvas dashboards if you want to see them side by side with other reports. There are UDA reports available. I'll push this question into the existing discussion thread for that in a minute.
3) According to this link, canvas dashboards are currently in open beta for all customers. I would start with double check your layout template -- maybe you've hidden it from yourself. Then go to your dashboard area and see if you need to sign in any further.
If you do significant work in the DU space, it would be worth it to try and discover when your cutover date is. Opening a case with Support or talking to your account rep if you have one, would be the first two things I try.
