Task Changing Access Levels

Hi Due to budgeting (or lack thereof), my team of project managers are licensed as Workers and so that is the start of my challenge. They are responsible for keeping their project plans up to date, but we find every now and then that they are not able to edit a task's duration, they are locked out IN A PROJECT WHERE THEY ARE THE OWNER. Within the project I have given everyone the highest access levels that are available. I cannot quite figure out the pattern or logic as to when they can and cannot edit a task. Any advice on what to check for? I'm pulling my hair out trying to find the right articles that can explain this. The access levels are so complex and intertwined and override one another and I just get lost in the morass. Thanks Jill Jill Ackerman

@Jill Ackerman The difference between the Worker and Planner access level is that Planners can Manage projects (found in Setup > Access Levels) compared to Workers only being able to Contribute to projects. Even if a Worker is setup as the Project Owner, the maximum permission they will receive on a project is Contribute. See the chart here . However, Workers can be granted Manage access on tasks they are assigned to, since the primary responsibility of someone with a Worker license is to get work done. Therefore, if a Worker is assigned as the project owner AND is assigned to every task within the project, he/she will be able to Manage all the tasks. On the other hand, if this Worker is not assigned to every task within the project, he/she will only be able to Contribute to the tasks not assigned to and therefore will not be able to make changes to the task duration, as that falls under Manage permissions. Hi I have found now testing this with the problem project – Aurelie who owns the project can edit ALL the tasks EXCEPT for those owned by Jessica. When she adds a new task and assigns it to Jessica, that task can be edited. The task owner of that locked task has no special properties that I know of, she is a Worker license, I don't even know what to look for to figure out why her task would be locked up when none of the others in the project act that way.

Hi @Jill Ackerman , This might be an indication of some underlying sharing we're not understanding that only allows the owner of a task to edit the task with a Work license. I'm sure you can test this theory pretty quickly. If this is the case, then you'll be required to switch the users to Plan licenses.
