Scheduling Tasks in Plan based on resource availability

Are there a "cliff notes"  on how to get a tasks in a project to calculate planned start dates based on

  • Project Start Date (Schedule Mode = Start Date)
  • Task predicessors
  • Assigned Resource Availability
  • Planned Hours

In other words, I know:

  • The tasks
  • The planned hours for the task
  • Who will work on the task
  • The resources available hours per day (6 hours per day)
  • Predicessors to the task

I want Workfront to tell me when each task can start and should end thus calculating the end date

I essentially want to use the assigned resource's availability as a constraint on the task.

As I read the info on Duration Types, Task Constraints and Predicessors I am getting lost in the possiblities and not finding anything that accounts for the resources 6 hour day.

Terri,

This link, https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/workfront/using/administration-and-setup/add-users/create... specifically the section around Resource Planning should be helpful.  Since people are in meetings and not doing tasks full-time there are fields in the user profile area for FTE and Work Time to help set users in exactly the fashion your wanting below.  Its not a cliff notes, sorry, there is a little reading to understand both fields intent.

Hey Kurt - thanks for the article.  I am still stuck.  For examples:

  • Tasks 1 & 2
    • Pln hours = 100 hours
    • Duration = 100 hours
    • Assigned to = Terri
    • Duraion type = Caluclated Assignment
    • Task Constraint = As Soon as Possible
    • The system calculated start on date is 3/24 for each
      • I obviously can not start both tasks on so I will not hit the due on date

What am I missing?
