About a year back, I conducted a new user bootcamp, which was basically a single project with a group of predefined tasks assigned to the users. The list was about 10 task per user, and contained items such as:
Reassign this task to a person sitting near you and mark complete
Post an update to this task and mark it as complete
Schedule time off in your profile
Upload a profile picture
Attach a document to this task
etc.
As an instructor, I had a task report where I could refresh the bar chart as the course went on to see who had finished, who had started and who was struggling. It went very well and I was able to train up about 150 users in two days, with each session only lasting an hour. It's a good way to get users to learn the basics of navigating around the tool and using the features you want them to learn.
This wasn't an idea of my own. Steve Cappellucci at Workfront shared it with me a couple of years back.
