Feature Discussion: ad-hoc tagging of objects with keywords/metadata

We've had a long time need to tag assorted object types with ad-hoc keywords or metadata, as is possible in many platforms. We have workarounds in place that we currently re-purpose or misuse existing parameters like the description field to add our own keywords prefixed with hashtags to enable certain filters or searches, but it's challenging at best for users to know what are the right tags to use for certain filters, or what other tags are already in use and the collection of tags becomes more susceptible to fragmentation.

Would love to see this implemented in a more formalized and capable data structure.
