Customize a parent task row in a project

Avatar

Level 2

Hello! I'd like to customize a parent task ROW in a task template - this task template is used in projects. See highlighted row in blue - we'd like to make this parent task row a different color to make it stand out more.

Is this possible? MicrosoftTeams-image.png

You would have to use a Task report view, which is how you see a task list in a project. When you open a project and go to "tasks", that's just a task report. You can create or edit a view by selecting the "View" menu while in a project, and selecting a view to edit, then follow the 3 steps below.

Select any column (preferably the Task "Name" column)

Select "Advanced Options"

Select "Add a Rule For this Column"

@RandyRoberts thanks for your quick response, where would I go to create this new column rule?

Note: Our task templates live under Templates, they are not reports.

Go to "Report Actions> Edit"

Select any column (preferably the Task "Name" column)

Select "Advanced Options"

Select "Add a Rule For this Column"

I think this is the issue - our Task Templates are not built as Reports.

They live under Templates -- Main Menu > Templates.

Is there a way to customize rows within a Template?

You can do the same in a template but the view will not pull through to the project.

Thanks! I think I understand the logic but getting stuck in the customization.

Would I choose Task > Number of Children like your screen shot?

If so, I don't have the Greater than choice...

The choices are contextual. if you choose a number field, you'll get the less than, greater than, etc. choices

OK, so for my circumstance, would you choose Task>Name?

Or would you recommend I use Task>Number of Children?

I basically want the header Creative Development in a new color.

Choose Number of Children, greater than or equal to, 1.

I would select a background color. Since it is a selectable item, I think changing the text color either doesn't do anything or makes it not clickable, I can't remember which.

Thanks again. I'll give that a try. I'm not sure I understand Number of Children and why it changed the text to numbers. Our tasks are always labeled with text.

I was able to figure it out for my needs, but it only works for 1 project. I'm not sure how to set it up for ALL projects.
