Can the AEL flow be improved to guide learners from one lesson back the landing page for their next lesson?

Currently the most direct way to progress from one lesson to the next in AEL is using the nested menu on the left hand of the page. If you do that though, it does not record against your progress in the module. Can this be changed to streamline the process and maintain continuity of experience without needing to open in a new tab that must then be closed to follow the recordable flow?
