MS Project Import

Need the ability to import MS Project files into existing projects in Workfront.  Our business operations requires us to use MSP and the current work-around creates a bottle neck situation in our workflow.

@LNAGainesIn Projects Object there is an option to Import a MS Project file. Might also try the Kickstart in Workfront to import a large set of data. Please give it a try.

Hi @LNAGaines,

Workfront's native MSP import and Kickstart functionality allow inserts, but not updates, so -- as the MSP source file changes enough to warrant doing so -- I suggest you consider either:

  • inserting a new MSP file as a WF (initially), then periodically deleting that WF version and re-inserting "the latest" MSP file
  • periodically exporting the MSP file to Excel, then deleting and importing some or all of the tasks with "the latest" using Workfront's Kickstart feature (insert only)
  • periodically exporting the MSP file to Excel, then synchronizing some or all of the tasks with "the latest" it via our Excel Updater solution (inserts and updates)
  • create your own Fusion solution to read from the MSP file (or an Excel export) to synchronize the data in WF (inserts and updates; some assembly required)

Regards,

Doug

You could also import the MSP project into Workfront, save it as a template and then attach that template to an existing project. That's a 5 minute solution.
