Ability to Add a Board into a Dashboard

The new Boards are great, but I want to be able to add a board to a dashboard. I have a lot of team-specific dashboards and we're starting to use Boards for project team to-dos that aren't really tied to projects. Just like we can bring in a report, calendar or external link to a dashboard, I want to be able to bring in a Board.

Hi @Madalyn_Destafney, I see your post is a couple years old but I'm just getting into using Boards. Do you know if this functionality was ever added by Workfront?

Also, do you know if it is possible to pull Projects into boards? It seems so strange that only Issues and Tasks can be pulled in.

Thank you!

@AnnaHolder , nope, still cannot add a board into a Dashboard. Can't add projects to a Board, you are correct it's only tasks/issues, which makes sense so those are the units that would be individually moving into different statuses/columns. You could add projects as cards if you want, you just can't make connected cards/they won't be dynamically tied to the projects. You'd have to move them among columns manually.

Hi @Madalyn_Destafney, thanks for the quick response and for confirming. That is unfortunate. I am curious now though, about dynamically tying an object to a board.  If I add a connected task/issue card, can the board be configured to move the card to another column automatically, based on the status on the connected task/issue?

@AnnaHolder, yes, moving cards automatically to different columns based on status is part of your board configuration.

More on connected cards here.

Hi @Madalyn_Destafney -- I went through the documentation and got a column set up with the automatic status change functionality. Yay! Do you know if there is a way to automatically set a card to archive when the connected item is closed/resolved?

@AnnaHolder , sorry for the delay, I was on vacation last week.

You can set archiving in the configure > cards area of the board at the bottom:

@AnnaHolder it's typical to have a column that is the equivalent of complete and the cards go there when in a complete status. Then you can archive them X days/weeks after the card moves to the completed column.

Ohh I see, so it goes back to the syncing of statuses topic we discussed earlier, where my cards first would need to move to a completed column automatically when the related object is marked closed/resolved. Makes sense. Thank you!
