Another option would be to create a Late Tasks Report and have the report send by email every day or by the cadence you wish. Set the report filter with the global $$USER.ID tag. When the worker clicks into the link from the email, it will show only his/her tasks that are late.

I agree. I just submitted a support ticket to understand if this was intended. The answer back is that it was on purpose. My team only wants a daily summary email of all comments made to documents they own. They do not want instant notifications because that would be spamming them. I guess for now, ...
