Adobe Target Capabilities
#3 of 7 – Auto-Allocate
Adobe Target offers many different testing & personalization options. I’ve outlined them here, and separated them into several categories – Non-personalized vs. personalized and Non-AI/ML vs. AI/ML. Note that the categories can overlap. The dotted lines represent the corresponding Personalized/AI version of the non-personalized/non-AI category. So Automated Personalization is to Multivariate what Auto-Target is to A/B testing.

This post will cover Auto-Allocate! Auto Allocate Testing falls into the non-personalized, but AI/Machine-learning suite of capabilities in the Adobe Target Premium capabilities package, although this option is also available in Target Standard. In future posts, I’ll cover the other categories! Stay tuned!

What is Auto-Allocate?
What is it?
- A testing optimization algorithm based on advanced statistics
- Identifies and allocates traffic for conversion-based activities to discover statistically-significant winners
- Don’t have to manually adjust activities to send more traffic to winners and less traffic to losers – when you do this manually, it will introduce a new vs. return visitor bias
How does it work?

When to use Auto-Allocate
- Lots of variants (usually 5+)
- Lots of hypotheses to test out
- Time is a factor – use to quickly narrow down winners
- Quantitatively confirm qualitative discovery learnings
- Narrow down winners (via evidence test) to do a value-driving test (sales read)
Examples:
- Black Friday – you may have 4 offers you want to go out with but only have 1 day to maximize the goodness of the winning offers
- Test out 10 different versions of copy
How to access Auto Allocate in Adobe Target

Stay tuned to the next posts which will cover each category on its own – what it is, when to use it, and how to access it in Adobe Target.
