Non-Flash client application

We'd like to use ALCS in some cases where the participants aren't "people" but are software "bots", particularly for chat activities.  Is there an API (Java or REST-ful) that can be used to accomplish something like this?

We are working on a server-to-server API that will allow that, but we are not there yet.

Soon we'll be posting here a preliminary spec to make sure we are on the right track.
