Dynamic Form Layout Problems

Avatar

I am new to Livecycle and am having problems with a dynamic form design. This form is a questionnaire that will have many text field questions that need narrative responses typed in. I started out using a template from the form libraryas my base, and editing it.  I believe I have added subforms (and subforms within subforms) to accommodate both flowing and positioned text fields on the first page of the form, and my problem is with how to add additional flowing text fields that will continue onto the next page(s). I don't even know if the work I have done so far will function as planned because my visual of the form layout is all messed up. Instead of flowing onto the next page, text fields labeled Questions 12 - 16 overlap on the page layout. I will need to add quite a few additional text fields to this form, so I need to figure this out sooner than later. Help!

P.S. I don't know how to attach my form so you can view it. Please advise.

Hi,

Here are some forms with flowed layouts that try and explain some of the features/aspects.

You should look at the object properties (eg textFields) in the Object > Field and Object > Layout tabs. You should also look at the pagination settings for the flowed subform and the page containing the flowed subform(s).

It just takes a bit of practice.

If you upload your form to a file sharing site, like Acrobat.com or YouSendIt.com and then share the published link here.

Good luck,

Niall

PS, if you have imported an existing form from Word or PDF then you may have trouble getting it to flow successfully. When you go with a flowed dynamic layout it is sometimes better to start the from from scratch in LC Designer (imho).

Lastly you will need to save the form as Dynamic in the save as dialog window.

Hi Kim,

Nearly - you need to select 'Share" from the menu when you upload the form. Then you need to click "Publish" twice. At this stage you should see on the bottom that it is published and there is a link to copy the URL. This is what you will need to post to the forum.

If you can post the full URL, it will look like some of the examples above,

Hi Kim,

Here is the form: https://acrobat.com/#d=2Ckf0W-XS7M2tKwyMMqI0A

The main issue was that the page subform was set to Positioned whereas it needed to be Flowed. I have made a start at working the internal subforms so that the layout makes sense in the new flowed layout.

Tip: keep all objects that don't need to expand in Positioned subforms. Try and thin out the number of subforms if you can. Also try and name subforms and objects as you go.

Good luck,

Niall

Thank you Niall for such a quick response. I thought it was going to either

be something simple, or that I'd have to start again from scratch. I will

review the file and let you know if I have any additional issues to bring up.
