Search on AEM 6.3

Hello everyone,

With AEM 6.3 release, my understanding is that search functionality is built in through Apache Solr integration. Based on that, I'm wondering if that is only for search within author instance, and if an external search engine (Google Search, Apache Solr, etc.) is needed to search on public sites (publish instance). Does anyone have any insight?
