Naming Conventions in AEM for XDP files

Avatar

Level 6

We are in the process of uploading XDP forms created in Designer into AEM as HTML files. I'm having a hard time finding documentation stating why we should not have spaces in the XDP file names before we upload them. I know it is the proper way to name files but I need documentation (proof and reasoning) to present in order to suggest a procedure change. Can anyone direct me to this as I know it exists just cant find it for this exact use case.

Thanks!

I think you should be able to upload xdp files having spaces in their names into AEM. Then render these XDP in HTML5 format

I just tried with a "test space in name.xdp"

Thank you for your quick response. We have discovered spaces in file names can technically be uploaded without error. My worry is that it could be problematic for other operations within AEM? No?

I am not aware of such issues. Where did you get the information from that spaces could be a problem?

As a rule, I've always been taught not to have spaces in file names because the link is basically broken after the space. Sometimes the computer/browser will replace the space with a %20 to complete the link. Even when you put a link with spaces in an email the part of the link after the space is not recognized. Apparently this is just a best practice in the technical/IT world and not a mandatory practice. Here is one place I see Adobe mentioning to take the space out of a file name (make note that the link itself has dashes and no spaces or %20s): https://experienceleague.adobe.com/docs/aem-forms-automated-conversion-service/using/styles-and-patt...
