Adjust check box when moving an asset

Avatar

Level 2

Can someone please explain the functionality and intention of the Adjust and Republish check boxes when you go to move an asset in the Assets view?

I can't find documentation that defines them. Based on what I can cobble together on my own using the discussion boards, it looks like Adjust would update any links that reference the asset. Is this correct? If you didn't check the box, what happens? Does it impact published links? Thanks!

When moving assets:

A. The Adjust checkbox provides an option to automatically update the references to those assets throughout the system.

When selected, AEM DAM will:

  • Update References: It ensures that any links, references, or dependencies to the asset in other content, workflows, or configurations (e.g., pages, components, or other assets) are updated with the new asset location. This helps maintain consistency and prevent broken links.
  • Avoid Broken References: If this checkbox is not selected, references to the moved assets might not be automatically adjusted, which could lead to broken links or missing assets in pages or content that previously referred to them.

B. The Republish checkbox, when moving assets, controls whether the asset is republished to the AEM Publish instance after the move.

When selected, AEM DAM will:

  • Republish the Asset: After the asset is moved to its new location, it will be automatically republished to all associated publish instances. This ensures that the updated location of the asset is reflected on the live website or any other publish environments.
  • Prevent Stale Assets: If this option is not selected, the moved asset will not be republished automatically, potentially leading to issues where the old asset location is still being referenced in published content, causing broken links or outdated content in the live environment.

Hope this helps.
