Factors help to decide migration path to V8 from on-premise

  1. What factors help a customer or partner decide between directly migrating from On-Premise to v8 or following a two-step process, initially migrating from On-Premise to fully hosted v7 and then using automation to upgrade to v8?
  2. what is the rough estimated time frame for completing each of these migration paths?
  3. How does the Managed Cloud Services Transition Manager assist in planning the optimal path for each customer's situation?

Hello @Anuhya-Y

There is no automated migration planned from on-prem v7 to v8. As you mentioned you will have to migrate it to v7 hosted first and this will be a manual migration.

Instead of first migrating to v7 (hosted) and then using the automated migration to v8. Why don't you migrate from on-prem directly to v8?

Thanks for the reply @_Manoj_Kumar_

Just evaluating different options at this point of time.

Would like to understand the steps and pain points involved in manual migration.

  • V8 works with two databases, while the on-premise setup has only one database.  how the import of on-premise packages (ex: custom schemas, campaign, webapp etc ) would work in the context of direct migration to V8 from on-prem?
  • Is there any documentation available for the customers who would like to go with manual migration?
  • In the case of manual migration, is there a need to purchase Managed Cloud Services offering ?

Hello @Anuhya-Y

There is no documentation available for manual migration. It is just like a new implementation from scratch. You will have to create everything one by one. Package import/export will not work.

The way it works is by default, you create everything on one database, and everything is replicated on a cloud database.

More details on replication are here: Technical workflows and data replication | Adobe Campaign
