Tracking data prior custom event

Hello everyone,

I am currently looking to track different basic data (page views - time spent - most used paths ...) with the following need:

- Track until the first catalog page exist.

We manage to cluster our catalog in a segment "catalog exists", we now would like to segment what is happening before they arrive to understand further behavior.

I would also like to see it on a visitor point of view and being able to know how long he will need to reach our pages after several visits.

I have been thinking about using the segment we already have, but I have no idea how I can create this "until this event happens".

All the best,

Antoine

Hi Antoine,

I recommend exploring the capabilities of sequential segmentation in Adobe Analytics to modify the existing criteria:

Hello everyone,

I too have a question regarding this topic. I'd like to create a segment that excludes all traffic happening after a certain event. I created the segment "event exists". Now I'd like to look at all data before this event is set (like average time spent, visit depth, pages per visit and so on).

I took a look at sequential segmentation and tried to exclude the specific traffic by setting up a segment based on "hit" level where "Event exists" then added a container that excludes "Page exists". But this doesn't seem to work. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi,

I confirmed with another source and I don't believe this specific scenario is possible with the current capabilities of sequential segmentation (R&A, Ad Hoc). The reason being the top-level segment criteria needs to be set to Hits, but it is not possible to use a hit criteria to reference other hits to exclude/include based on sequence. If you have access to query the raw clickstream or Data Workbench it is possible to segment in this manner.

I recommend posting your R&A hit sequence include/exclude segment idea to the Idea Exchange to bring to the attention of Product Management.
