Page flow vs previous page flow

Avatar

Level 2

Hello there, community!‌‌

Client requested a detailed report on the URL of the landing standalone page,

When I drill down to a previous page dimension, I only see the same page name, however when I look at the page flow visualisation, I see multiple previous pages.

Can you explain the difference and logic for grabbing the previous page in abobe?

Hi @Monishasargunan ,

If you are getting previous page name and page name same, most likely page is loading twice. Means page is started loading and before it's loaded completely, something is triggering page load again. It could be Adobe Target, or something related to code.
If you are sure, nothing is related to above points, you need to revisit your implementation.

I guess that please run pages/ PageName report with entries metrics and drill down it with the URLs, this is the report which your client is looking for.

with regards to your query on previous page - 'I am assuming that you are seeing the entry page and there you are getting same pageName as previous page.' if this the case then note that there is some implementation error in capturing previous page name. Request to debug and check as soon as directly land on the page then is it capturing values in your previous page variable? if yes, then it need correction as it should capture any value. In ideal scenario, If you will drill down entry page with the previous page then expected result is always 'unspecified' as users will not have any previous page value when they land on the entry page.

with regards to seeing multiple previous pages in page flow report - if you are running flow report then by default it is at visitors level as well as it do not include repeat instances and hence, seeing multiple values. if you will change the setting and 'include repeat instances' then it is very likely that you will see the same behaviour as previous page.

Hope this will help.
