New Dynamic Drop-down Filter Feature Available in Workspace

Dynamic drop-down filters allow you to determine available values based on data within the panel’s reporting range and values in other drop-down filters. Dimension items selected in static drop-down filters affect available values in dynamic drop-down filters. In contrast, dimension items specified in dynamic drop-down filters do not affect available values in static drop-down filters. Note: Dynamic drop-down filters are unavailable for metrics, segments, or date ranges.

Two Dynamic Drop-Downs to Include All Data Values

For example, you can create two dynamic drop-downs using the Countries and Cities dimensions by dragging the dimension into the panel drop-zone while holding the Shift key. When you select a country from the Countries drop-down list, the Cities drop-down list dynamically adjusts only to show cities within that country, as shown below. 

Using two dynamic drop-down filters will include all dimension values in the filters without making any manual additions to the dashboard. As a result, the dashboard will not have to be continuously updated to include any new values you’d like to analyze, as they will automatically include these values. In contrast, using static filters, you would have to add these new values to the drop-down manually.

Note: The filter icons next to the dimension items indicate that the drop-down is dynamic, unlike a static drop-down.

One Static Drop-Down & One Dynamic Drop-Down to Filter for Specific Data Values 

Rather than creating two dynamic drop-downs that will display all dimension values, creating one static drop-down and one dynamic drop-down is an effective way to display data that is most relevant to your analysis. Setting up one static filter will allow you to hone in on the critical dimension items you are analyzing. For instance, I selected five site sections in the example below that will serve as the static drop-down. 

Next, I used the Page Name variable to create a dynamic drop-down. This example will display page names within each of the site sections selected.

As a result, I can easily toggle through the static drop-down filter (Site Section filter) to understand how each page within this site section is performing without scrolling through hundreds of dimension items to select the appropriate site section.

I love this feature!  Makes it much easier to create a dashboard and know it will automatically include new values!
