Workfront reports don’t just have to be a simple list with standard views, filters and groupings — they can be dynamic visuals used to tell a story, compare data, paint a clear picture of how work is getting done across the organization and keep the targeted audience engaged. There are six different types of charts in Workfront — bar, column, line, pie, bubble and gauge. Learn how to apply a chart to a reportIn order to apply a chart to your Workfront report, you must first add a grouping. For a quick refresher on report groupings, click here. Once a grouping has been applied, you can begin to create and customize basic or 3D charts to highlight data trends or patterns in an attractive and easily digestible way. And if you want to have the colors match your company’s style guide - no problem - enter in the appropriate RGB code. To learn more about adding charts, review the article, Add a chart to a report, and watch the short, 6-minute video, Create charts with reports, on Workfro
Have you ever received a Workfront email notification for a work item you aren’t assigned to, or seemingly even directly tied to? Or on the opposite spectrum, get assigned work and not know about it until you log in? Did you know that Workfront has over 90 system-level email notifications available within the global Setup menu that can be activated? System administrators can globally activate email notifications within Setup > Email > Notifications by selecting the checkbox to the left of the notification name and then clicking the Activate button. Upon clicking the Activate button, a checkmark will automatically appear in the Active column to let you know it has been turned on for all users within your instance. Likewise, if an administrator would like to deactivate a notification for all users, select the checkbox to the left of the notification name and then click the Deactivate button. You will notice that the checkmark i
Report prompts are open filters that can be customized and applied differently each time you run a report. Prompts give flexibility to reports, allowing you to tweak certain criteria without having to create a whole new report. Many report writers use prompts that relate to completion dates, status, and users. For example, you have a report that looks at all of the active projects in the Marketing portfolio with planned completion dates of this quarter. This is a report you use frequently. You’re showing this report in a meeting, and one of the executives wants to know how many of these projects are running late. The director of the project manager wants to know how many of the projects belong to members of his team. You’re in the middle of a meeting! You can’t write brand new reports right now! That’s when built-in prompts come in, as they allow you to run the same report with just a few added criteria. Report prompts act on top of the filters that are already built into
Did you know? You can change ID numbers to names in reports. Have you ever created a report only to find that one of the columns is displaying what appears to be nonsense information instead of the data you expected? Perhaps, as you look at your project report, you realize that it’s displaying the ID number instead of the names for the project owner and the project owner’s manager. Just a few edits will get both of those columns switched so they display names instead. This week's Workfront Wednesday walks you through these steps, in the context of a project report. Let's walk through this together in a Project Report: Starting from the report itself, go to Report Actions and select Edit.Click the Columns (Views) tab.Start with the project owner’s column in the bottom of the window. You see that the report is using Owner ID. This is why the ID number is displaying in the report instead of the name. Click the column in the preview area to select it. This displays the
One of the most important aspects of successfully using software is the maintenance of it. One step further is the inevitable cleanup that must occur when the system has gone through challenging times—this is especially critical when your Workfront system administrators change and too many objects are created without reviewing what already exists with colleagues. This week’s blog focuses on how to review your Workfront instance to find old or outdated items, recommended actions to help keep the system organized, and tips for preventing clutter moving forward. IMPORTANT AREAS FOR CLEANUP If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to cleanup, consider the major areas in Workfront that tend to be the most cluttered—custom forms, templates, projects, and users. Below are some recommendations to help with system organization in each area. Custom Forms— Custom forms are one of the most highly used features in Workfront, as organizations use these to capture specific metrics. If
Have you ever wanted to try a new process, custom form, access level, template—or anything else—without making changes to your production environment? Did you know that Workfront provides all customers with a test environment so you can safely experiment with new ideas? This test environment is known as the Preview Sandbox. The Preview Sandbox contains your actual production data. It refreshes every weekend, so data can be up to one week behind what’s in your production environment. To access this test environment, system administrators can click into Setup > System > Preferences > Preview Sandbox. For all other users, simply navigate to https://domain.preview.workfront.com and you should be prompted with a login screen. If you are unsure of what your domain is, look at your Workfront URL—the text prior to .my.workfront.com is your domain. In the screenshot below, the domain is nicholevargas. Below are a few common questions regardi
Workfront is at the heart of what we do every day. Everything we do in professional services, both internal and customer facing, runs through Workfront. Our project managers and consultants use robust templates that direct more than 100,000 hours of consulting effort each year. When a new customer buys Workfront, Fusion, DAM, or any Workfront product requiring services, a Fusion “Salesforce-to-Hub(Workfront)” integration immediately spins up and populates all the information gathered by our sales team into the implementation project and automatically assigns the project manager as the owner of the project. Between the Fusion integration and templates, we save hundreds of hours of project setup each year. Professional services is a major source of revenue for Workfront, contributing to our overall success and profitability. Using Fusion, we’ve integrated Workfront with Netsuite to ensure that our forecasting and revenue recognition is timely and accurate, and that everyone that need
A responsibility assignment matrix (also known as a RACI matrix) is a common tool for communicating roles and responsibilities on a project. The intention of using a RACI matrix is to clearly communicate who is responsible, who is accountable, who should be consulted, and who should be informed throughout the life of a project. This article discusses what to consider when building a RACI matrix in Workfront as well as some of the trade-offs that come with different approaches.Where to Build Your RACI MatrixThe first consideration to make is where in Workfront should your RACI information live. I have generally seen two approaches to RACI matrices while working with Workfront clients.RACI fields added as custom data to projects. This approach makes sense for projects with shorter schedules or projects planned at a lower level of granularity. As a general rule I recommend planning projects at a milestone level when getting started in Workfront. Less project tasks means less overhead for u

AEM Unit Testing With Groovy & Spock by Juan Ayala Abstract In my last post, I explored three different ways to use Groovy in our AEM projects. Using Groovy to build OSGi components, servlets and models seemed the most promising. Now I bring you a fourth one that I find as promising. Unit testing with Groovy & Spock. There are a lot of topics here. TDD vs. BDD. JUnit vs. Spock. Groovy vs. Java. My goal here is not to give you a complete analysis. That's up to you based on your team composition and client. I am going to give you some context. Then I will show you is how to set it up in an AEM project and show you a few examples. TDD vs. BDD You can spend some time researching Test Driven Development and Behavior Driven Development. To put it simply TDD is for a small technical audience, such as developers. To test small pieces of code. In AEM this could be a Java Sling model or OSGi service. BDD is for a wider audience outside of the development team. Developers, QA test

AEM Proxy Component Pattern and Component Versioning by Suryakand Abstract Most organization want to keep content and user experience flexible so that they can innovate and deliver new experiences/features faster. Flexibility allows organizations to reuse what has been built already and keep adding new features and functionalities on top of it. One of the key characteristics of flexibility is backward compatibility and non-breaking changes. This flexibility comes with a clear definition of a strategy for content creation and user experience. In this article we are going to look at 2 very simple but powerful component development strategies that organization (specifically technical teams) can adopt to win the flexibility game and stay ahead in competition of delivering rich user experience. Let’s start with a scenario/problem statement. Assume that a large banking organization has business in multiple countries. The organization is using AEM and MSM (Multi Site Manager) to manage

Enabling the Front-End Pipeline by Adobe Docs Abstract Learn how you can enable the front-end pipeline for existing sites to leverage site themes to more quickly customize your site. Overview The front-end pipeline is a mechanism that can quickly deploy just the front-end code of your websites based on site themes and site templates. Instead of deploying the full-stack, only front-end code is handled by this pipeline making the process faster and also allows front-end developers to easily and quickly customize your site without knowledge of AEM. Sites based on site templates can leverage the front-end pipeline by default. This document describes how you can adapt your existing sites to take advantage of the front-end pipeline. TIP If you are not familiar with the front-end pipeline and how to quickly deploy sites using it and site templates, please review the Quick Site Creation journey for an introduction. Hi Community, I'm currently creating a Unit Test that uses the Object Content Element, coming from the content fragment.getElements(). I'm currently using Junit5 to create my Unit Tests and the io.wcm.testing framework. I was checking the mocked class for the ContentElement that is inside that package, and I found that this method getValue() is always throwing this exception:class MockContentFragment_ContentElement_Structured extends MockContentFragment_Versionable implements ContentElement { public FragmentData getValue() { throw new UnsupportedOperationException(); }}So, when I try to do the following behaviour, I always get this exception: while(contentElement.hasNext()) { ContentElement contentElementObject = contentElement.next(); FragmentData value = contentElementObject.getValue(); <---- Exception (So test failed) String fieldName = contentElementObject.getName(); String fieldValue = getValueFromBranch(fullBranch, f
