Update task status to "cancel" on a Parent Task

Avatar

Level 1

Is there a way to bulk update task statuses in a project? Our users have parent tasks with 10+ tasks underneath which they sometimes need to cancel if not needed as part of a particular project. They would like to just cancel the parent task and have the children underneath cancelled instead of going one by one.

You can select the tasks (checkboxes on the left of tasks in a project) > pencil icon > bulk edit the task status, which is the most common way of bulk editing tasks in a project.

Or if you really don't need sections of tasks, select the parent (which selects all its children too) and delete the section. Parents reflect the children, not the other way around. So you can't cancel a parent task and have the children automatically follow suit.

You can edit the project and set the Summary Completion Mode to manual instead of automatic, but then this will apply to the whole project (all the parents) and that may lead to unanticipated consequences. Up to you!
