Task Template Dates and Predecessors

Hello, I am trying to edit my task template durations and predecessors. When I edit a task's duration it doesn't stick and just goes back to a different timing. And then the predecessors keep giving me an error message about dependencies. Is there a way to edit the overall duration so that it lets me edit each task's duration? Thank you! Hi Kristen, There could be a couple of reasons. It's tough to tell without seeing it. But the first thing I look for is a problem with Parent tasks (both on dependencies and Task Constraints). If you create a View that displays the column of Task Constraint it can show you if there's a potential issue there. For example, you may have the parent task set to Fixed Dates, which will bind the subtasks. Can you send a screen shot (preferably with the Task Constraint column) and let me know which ones you're trying to change? I can take a look if you wish.

That would be great! Thank you for your help. Here is a screenshot of how we have it set-up currently. Kristin Coppens

OK which tasks are you trying to change? At a glance the first thing I would look at is the predecessors on the Parent tasks. Typically I would avoid doing that because your subtasks have predecessors and you want that to rule the day and many times it can cause that dependency loop or conflict. That doesn't mean I wouldn't use the Parent task as a predecessor for a subtask. Put I never add a predecessor value in a Parent Task. But let me know which one you're trying to change and to what.
