Make a task automatically start and end with the project

We're moving towards tracking time in Workfront.  We don't care about time spent on individual tasks, only what project it goes to.  In order to guarantee projects show up on user's timesheets, we were planning on adding a dummy time tracking task that spans the length of the project.

Is there a way with predecessors (or something else) to make the start and end date of the time tracking task automatically update to span the length of the project?  I'm playing around with different task dependency types but haven't found one that will work yet.

Thank you!

can you just make it the parent of the entire set of project tasks?

This might work!  I'm mulling it over to see if I can think of any downsides.  I'll have to check some of my task reports to make sure nesting tasks wouldn't change any of them, but this might work!

Hi @ChloeWY,

Although less granular (which seems to match your requirements), you could also consider allowing (and training) users to track their time at (only) the Project level.

My challenge with this is that I want the projects people are on to automatically show up on their timesheets.  In order for that to happen they need a task assigned to them that has dates of today +/- 4 weeks.

I know they could track time from the project screen and add projects to the timesheet themselves and pin them, but I'm trying to make this as easy as possible to counteract the fact that they have to track time now.  Which is how I arrived at adding a dummy task onto all our templates.
