How to create a report showing how many project I have per month?

Hello

I have plenty of reports telling me how many were created or completed and when.

This report should answer the question "How many projects there are this month?" And show how many were last month and previously.

I'm struggling with what this report should be anchored on, since like said, I'm not interested in particular status or data stamp, but the count of projects existing in particular month.

Any suggestions how to solve it?

I also need to see how many projects are active per month, regardless of when they started or completed. The closest thing I can find is to display the project list in Gantt view and group it by month. This allows you to scroll down the list to see how long each project lists, giving a view of which months they are active. However, this is not what I was hoping for or needed for an executive summary.
