I know that I can create a field to track status timestamps but can I create a report column that does that for me instead?

You cannot. You need to create one-time-write calculated fields (look for Doug's explanation here) for whenever the status changes to one you want to track. Then you can display that field as a column in a report.

How would I create a field that only stamps when the status is changed. I tried using dougs formula but the field always updates when any other field is modified. For example I want to track On Hold, status is changed to On Hold, time is marked, but it is updated when still in status and other fields are updated.
