Update Planned Hours in Resource Scheduling or Balancer

It would be great to be able to update the Planned Hours as the Resource Manager directly in the Resource Scheduler or Balancer without having to navigate away from that screen. Currently, in the Beta Balancer, you have to open up the Summary panel for a task which shows all details of that task except for the planned hours. Clicking on "See All" takes you to the Project Details page and away from the Balancer.

We have weekly Resourcing Meetings where the Resourcing Manager will review the resourcing w/ all of the PMs. If updates need to be made, the Resource Manager needs to be able to update Planned hours on tasks quickly and on the fly without having to click around to multiple screens.

Hi everyone,

As we have announced deprecation for Resource Scheduling solution, we merged this idea with the following one: Link

We will continue evaluating and providing updates there.

Hi Vazgen,

I just tried to do update the Planned Hours in the Workload Balancer and it's not working for me. I'm experiencing the same thing that Christine mentions - you click on "See All" and it takes you to the Project Details page, away from the Balancer. I can successfully reallocate existing Planned Hours in the Balancer, but I can't change, or update, the amount of Planned Hours directly from the Workload balancer. Will it take time to roll out this feature in Production?

Thanks!

Hi Sheri,

Thanks for clarifying this. The way to update this will be to edit the allocations in a way that the sum of hours reflects the new value. So if the task had 5 5 5 hours on 3 days, entering 8 8 8 will make the task go to 24 hours. That also helps to control the distribution of hours, by entering extra hours on days the assignee has capacity.

Thanks for your reply, Vazgen! I tried doing that, but it won't take the new value - it just highlights the box in red and won't let me save the changes. I made a screen recording here https://share.vidyard.com/watch/wyGLwhqfLWDxHFHcqS8MAo?

Am I doing something wrong when trying to update the hours?

This will work for Simple duration type tasks only, maybe the task in the example you shared has a different duration type? There is also an access level setting but I assume you're an admin so that shouldn't be an issue.

The reason this works for Simple tasks only is because the editing is done for hours of an individual assignee and only Simple duration type tasks allow direct input of hours there.
