Enable Users to Customize "In-App" Notifications (Like Email Notifications)

Our users' in-app notifications are now so plentiful that they are essentially useless. It would be great if the users were able to turn selected in-app notifications "on" or "off" in their User Settings; ideally, the interface would be modeled on the one that is already in place for customizing Email Notifications.

(Frankly, I was surprised to find that we can only customize the Email Notifications, and not the corresponding in-app ones...)

This comment appears to be what we are looking for as well - for a MAJOR improvement.

Our users want to use the "Notificatication" box to be able to search, find, organize the many notifications they are receiving within Workfront. Our request is to have this notification box be more usable with having features like a typical "inbox" would have (like Outlook).

Currently, all messages just stay there forever, in date order with no way to organize, etc. Asana is another good example of another capability reference. As well as having the ability to archive and unarchive as needed.

Also having the ability to view the notifications as threads verses each comment made individually without full context or to see the full conversation.

This is definitely a major need of improvement and should not be shelved.

This really should be higher priority. It's 2022, I probably spend equal amount of time adjusting my social media notification settings as I do posting on it! It's critical to functionality, processes, and removing the noise.

Any more updates?

Our teams are asking for the ability to control in-app notifications as they do with email notifications. They feel like they are wading through "spam" to find the newest and most relevant stuff that matters to them.

Yes, our PMs can put the project in Planning mode, make changes, then put it back in a Current mode. That's what our PMs try to remember to do. But if it's a single update changing the project status to avoid notifications isn't too realistic of a behavior.

Our company has the same issue with this. Hundreds of proof comments in the in-app notifications making that feature useless and forcing us to rely on emails to stay on top of relevant communications. The whole point of the project management system is to move away from the email bombardment.

It's been six years since this was submitted. Any update from Adobe? I'll echo the sentiment that these notifications are useless to our users without a way to personalize what they receive. We'd rather not see them at all if we can't control them.

Hi @EricMa ,

Thank you for the idea. I'm working with Jonathan Chen to get updates on the top ideas that haven't had any recent updates.

I work in the Product Management team. I checked with Natalie Mitchell. She is one of the Product Manager leaders. Here is her response for this idea:

"This is an area where we have received quite a bit of feedback and we are currently examining both our use of in-app notifications and the user controls for these notifications. While we do want to make improvements in these areas, we don't yet have a timeline for delivery of these improvements."
