On the authoring page view, after selecting a page to edit, we want to hide the properties toolbar button option for a specific group. What is the way to customize the toolbar based on user access rights?

Sam, there is no browser error just on save, the JCR changes do not get persisted.

Nevermind, /etc/workflow is the node. Works for now

Ganesh,So found that just giving access to /etc/workflow showed that option. The last hurdle is when I click that, I don't see the workflows listing in dropdown to start a workflow
