Agreed!  definitely some limitations. It totally depends on the use case and character limit and which implementation style you wanna do, so Trying different approaches could work. 

Why dont you map the evar from adobe analytics to the equivalent one to schema in custom code? 

the max number of rows you can download is 400 at a time or use data warehouse. But datawarehouse might be tricky if you are using calculated metrics/segments.
