What I do is create a new column rule and put a space in the Show Text option.What I do for that is make a new column rule, and use a space for the Show Text option:
Do you have that calculated field on both forms? Also, I thought case matters (you have NEW instead of New), but you said it worked for the first field.

A pie chart would work well for that. You can group by a high level object so all tasks fall under the same thing, like Portfolio, Company, or Group Adina Pierce
