A Alias instead of CNAME

Avatar

Level 4

hi team, a client is using the CNAME delegation for creating a subdomain. They've pasted all DNS records in their hosting solution but when they want to paste this AJO record: CNAME , notificaciones.aaa.ar , notificaciones.aaa.ar.cname.cjm.adobe.com in their hosting solution, the client is currently adding it as an A Alias because their hosting provider requires an initial alias to configure a CNAME (like data. ; _dmarc. ; cdn , etc.) , and notificaciones.aaa.ar doesn't have one.

That's why they're using an A Alias.
But AJO is not finding the CNAME record desired ( notificaciones.aaa.ar ) and we're not able to create the subdomain.Has anyone faced this before? We're in a hurry as we need to start our email campaigns.

Thanks.

Hi @Silvio6 ,

Which hosting provider are you using? I will suggest to search in their documentation how to add a cname.

Usually you have to create the subdomain first notificaciones.aaa.ar on your hosting side and notificaciones is the alias of your parent domain aaa.ar

Once you get the DNS records from AJO then you can add using notificaciones as alias , name as notificaciones.aaa.ar and target will be notificaciones.aaa.ar.cname.cjm.adobe.com

It's the common setup but maybe your hosting provider is doing it differently.

Thanks,

David

ok so you mean going to the parent domain (aaa.ar) and create there the CNAME record like this?

Isn't there any risk? thanks

ok, it's working, we used parent domain to add the "notificaciones" alias. The subdomain was created successfully—we’ve already set up the channel surface, sent a test, and everything is working well.. However, when I click on the subdomain, I now see a new DNS record that wasn’t there before. Should I ask the client to add this final record to their hosting solution?

I see this new record if for "aaa.ar" (parent) but I'm setting up the "notificaciones.aaa.ar" subdomain in AJO UI. Is this ok?

Now that everything's working fine, shouldn't I see something like this?

@Silvio6

Yes, you need to add a DMARC record to be compliant with Yahoo and Gmail sender policy.

If the parent domain has a DMARC setup, then the subdomain will use it. Otherwise you need to create a DMARC record for it.

check in AJO the subdomain. If it's showing yes for the DMARC Record column then you're good

Just to clarify - there was already a DMARC record configured for the parent domain before I created the subdomain.

Now, I see that the subdomain shows a “Yes” for DMARC.

Given that, can I safely omit the additional DMARC setup (the one from image) and continue with the channel surface configuration?

As mentioned, I already created the channel surface for the subdomain and test emails have been sent successfully - everything is working fine. I just wanted to confirm that this setup is okay.

Thanks!

@Silvio6
you can validate in the headers of the test emails you did. It should look like screenshot below with pass as result for DMARC authentication.
