Edge Delivery Services Fundamentals

Avatar

Hi all,

Please guide me towards Edge Delivery Services Fundamentals.

I am totally new to it.

The latest webinar (Mar 13th 2024) also assumes some knowledge of this subject and so could not complete going through it.

Read that it is something like a CDN to help deliver content faster, but it looks like it is much more than that.

I do not know Universal Editor, Document based editing, etc.

Is it specific to AEM As A Cloud Service only or for any AEM flavor?

Appreciate all your responses.

Thanks,

RK.

Hi,

Here are my two cents. Edge Delivery is a set of composable services in AEM as a Cloud Service, including a CDN, which appears to be the most obvious aspect but can sometimes be overlooked by many. Although it seems to be supported only for AEM as a Cloud Service for now, from what I understand, it will also be available for clients hosted on AMS.

As you mentioned, Edge Delivery services are document-editing based and primarily convert everything back to plain CSS/JS to achieve the best possible performance. If you want to learn more, you can check out this documentation to fully understand how it works: https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/experience-manager-cloud-service/content/edge-delivery/ov...

I recommend to watch some of the videos where people explain what it is and what is not, such as:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTm4neB63ak&ab_channel=AdobeDevelopers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvgjE4n94Io&ab_channel=BuildingExperienceswithMarkSzulc

Hope this helps

HI @AEM_Forum
You can start with document based authoring first to understand the Edge delivery service concepts.

Complete the below 2 steps, won't take more than 1 hour

https://www.aem.live/developer/tutorial

https://docs--bootcamp--lamontacrook.hlx.live/bootcamps/edge/

With above two you would be able to understand the setup and way of working with blocks
