Newb Question - Good Karma offered in return for answer – Insertion Points?

Former Community Member

I'm creating forms in LiveCycle and I see that there are Subforms & Insertion Points... The DIY Training videos I learnt from never touched what insertion points are and when you'd want to use them? I tried finding examples online or video examples and couldn't find anything... Anyone mind shedding your knowledge on me?

What are insertion points?

When would I want to use them?

Do you have examples?

Thank you in advance for taking the time in answering this one. All I could find online was

"An insertion point is a subform that acts as a placeholder for a fragment that is inserted into the form when the form is assembled." (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/9.0/designerHelp/index.htm?content=000402.html) which left me scratching my head.

I'm just guessing, but the wording talking about "when the form is assembled" suggests it's for the server-based assembler service.

Useful for dynamic fragment/form assembly server side. Have a look at the following blog entry from John Brinkman for more on how insertion points are used for form stitching / assembler service.
