I have a need to change this document (link above) to a dynamic form.  My first action was to import the PDF into Livecycle designer ES 8.2.  Apparently it was brought in as artwork.  I am OK with that as long as I can add dynamic fields to it, but wait......it looks like Livecycle already placed dynamic fields in all of the places i would want, creating a hierarchy.  When I go to save this file it is limited to Static Form "Save As Type".  Any ideas on how to get around this?  Everything looks perfect except that I can not use this document to fill in data by the user dynamically.

Hi,

When you create a form by importing an existing form, eg from a Word document, then you cannot save it as a Dynamic XML Form.

However you can still have a functioning form, its just that you can't have dynamic behaviour like growing fields, flowing content or add instances/rows.

Here is your form back: https://acrobat.com/#d=ROPU58OJ8zxB51INDpyjHQ

The main problem is that it was set up for PDF/A standard, which prevented the fields accepting data. I have removed the PDF/A standard from the profile (preflight) and it seems to work okay now:

Hope that helps,

Niall,

Thanks for your input. I have learned something new today. I really am only looking for this form to be interactive and not really dynamic.  The PDF/A that you changed with the preflight.  Where is that in Livecycle Designer?

Hi Allen,

No, it isn't in LC Designer. If you open the form in Acrobat and go to the Advanced > Preflight menu. You need to look in the Profiles for the PDF/A compliance section. I am using v9 Pro Extended, so I am not sure what the menu route is for other versions.

Good luck,

Niall,

Thanks you have saved me hours and hours of duplicating this form and/or troubleshooting.  I found the Preflight area and I am now researching this topic, so I am more informed.

Thanks again.
