How to open an xdp file in Acrobat Reader 9

I created an xdp file in Livecycle Designer, and it works perfect if I preview it in Livecycle Designer. When I opened it in Acrobat Reader 9, I got this error message “Unable to locate the form, because the XFA data lacks a reference to the PDF document. If the data came back as a result of a submit from a PDF form, then the URL is probably missing “#FDF” at the end.”

I did some research online. It seems that I can only open a PDF file in Acrobat Reader 9, but is it a way that allows me to open an xdp file in Acrobat Reader 9? The filled data is from a separate xml file.

Any help will be appreciated.

You have to save the form as PDF to open it with Acrobat or Reader.

Thanks for your reply. I need to open an xdp file instead of a PDF file.

XDP is a container file for XML-based files, that can contain XFA-forms, PDF-files, metadata etc.

You will need a LiveCycle product (incl. Designer) to open such files.

Acrobat / Reader cannot open this files.
