Form field positioning - LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2

How to get form fields to be side by side instead of one above the other (LiveCycle designer ES 8.2)

I'm new to LiveCycle Designer

When I created my form in LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 (on Win7) I lined up some of my fields in the editor so that they would be side by side - horizontal. Like yes/no check boxes, one beside the other. Yet when I saved and opened the form, the check boxes were vertical one on top of the other. I don't see how I can move them so that they are side by side again.

It's because your form is set to flowed, to be able to set objects side by side your subform must be positioned

You can change the flowing content: Object Pallete -> under Subform -> Content

is probably set to Flowed

change it to Positioned

OK, I have different fields throughout the form. Some need to expand others don't. I grouped the fields I mentioned in with fields that needed to expand in the subform, so yes, it is set to "flowed" instead of "positioned". So should I make several subforms and use the adjustments you suggested? Use a subform for fields that do NOT need to expand and then create another subform for fields that DO need to expand...and continue this throughout the rest of the form

Still haven't found a solution to my problem.

Setting up the expandable fields with "flowed" did not help my formatting problem.

I wrapped the expandable sections into subforms and then left the items/fields below them that I wanted to keep side by side as they were.

This doesn't work because the expandable sections flow over the "positioned" items.

I want to keep things like checkboxes side by side but throughout my document I have fields that I want to expand.

If anyone has a workaround for this please let me know.

Basically, this is what my problem is.

I have questions on my form that need to expand. I can get it to expand without any problems.

But interwoven with those questions are questions that I don't want to expand (like yes/no checkboxes, one word answers, etc). I want some of those fields to be side by side.

If I wrap those "side by side" questions in with the "flowed" (expandable) subform it changes the formatting and places the yes/no fields in the vertical position - which I don't want, I want them side by side (horizontial)

Okay read carefully and create a new form just try this out, then you might understand how it works.

So you want a set of objects on the side of a set of objects (subform side by side of a subform)

Now you can set frmTop, and frmFlowed to "Flowed"... you can add as many subforms as you want inside frmTop and frmFlowed

Now frmPositioned will be flowing through the form frmFlowed with 2 set of objects side by side inside the two subforms (frmRight, frmLeft)

I also have been fighting expanding text fields for several days now and a little late to this discussion. However, if possible I'd like to to find an answer to a by-product issue I've encountered once I figured out expanding text boxes.

As for the form fields changing from in-line to vertically, from what I can tell that is directly connected to having a sub-form set as flowed instead of positioned. So, I'd

I am still having some issues. For example, I have a header and footer in place that I'd like to always appear in their respective places. The last text field seems to not want to page break on it's own causing the text to cover the footer.

I have each of the text fields and sub-forms set to <Allow Page Breaks within Content> checked thinking this would allow the box to rollover to the next page automatically, but doesn't seem to be the case.

I also tried moving the footer to the <Master> page in hopes it would behave differently. Unfortunately, still the same issue. I'm certain I'm missing something, just not sure what. I'd like to keep the document clean looking despite having expanding text fields.

So, here's my question:

  • How do I prevent the text field from over running my footer and auto page break onto the next page past the header?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

@mmickells Did you find a solution for the issue that the text is over running the footer? I have the same issue...
